Frequently asked questions

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Atlanta?

HomeGuide's national figures for 2026 are $6 to $15 per square foot, or $2,400 to $8,600 for a two-car driveway. Those are not our quotes. Slope, length, access, base work and tear-out set the price on an Atlanta lot. Our concrete cost guide has the detail.

Why do so many Atlanta driveways crack and sink?

Mostly because of water and roots. Hard rain runs under slabs on sloped lots and washes out the red clay, and large trees lift panels from below. A compacted stone base and planned drainage prevent most of it.

Do I need a permit for a driveway apron or sidewalk in Atlanta?

Yes. The Atlanta Department of Transportation requires a permit to install or repair a driveway apron or a sidewalk, because both are in the public right of way. Work fully on your lot is checked with the Office of Buildings.

Who is responsible for the sidewalk in front of my house?

In the City of Atlanta, Section 138-14 of the city code puts sidewalk maintenance on the abutting property owner. Ask ATLDOT what applies now on your street. Nearby cities have their own rules.

How long before I can use new concrete?

Walk on it after one to two days and drive a car on it after about seven days. Keep heavy trucks off for close to a month.

Who contacts Georgia 811 before digging?

The person doing the digging. On our jobs, we make the request. Georgia 811 requires at least 3 business days of notice before digging starts.

Do you remove the old concrete?

Yes. Tear-out and haul-away are part of our quote when a replacement is needed.

Can cracked concrete be repaired?

Small cracks and surface damage can often be repaired or resurfaced. Slabs that have sunk or broken up usually need to be replaced. We tell you which applies.

Do I need a permit for concrete work in Atlanta?

Driveway approaches, sidewalks and structural slabs often need a permit. We check the rules for your address.
